Solid Self Esteem

It seems, these days, it takes less and less criticism to offend many segments of society. A person can hardly say anything, in public, without getting in trouble with someone. Famous people cannot even speak frankly in private, due to tabloid type reporters, who are almost omnipresent. A person with true self esteem is not easily offended. President Bush described himself as thick skinned. More and more, people complain  someone"disrespected' them, often in defense of an aggressive act, even violence. If someone respects themselves, they do not worry whether someone else respects the, unless it affects how much money they make, but it seems people in that kind of businesses make plenty of money , in my opinion, anyway. People easily offended usually have something they are not proud of in their past. They are not comfortable with their life, so far, so they depend on praise from others to feel good.
True self esteem comes from creditable achievement. Someone who has always done the next right thing, or has started doing so and made amends for past misdeeds, will be rather hard to offend. This is evidenced by Christians today. It seems they are consistently being treated worse than other religious segments of society, without reacting negatively, while other people react violently for the slightest slight. That indicates something obvious to me about these other beliefs. If they are so easily offended, it seems they have doubts about their beliefs. Yet, society walks on eggshell to keep from offending them. That is enabling, when they need to be challenged so they can see the flaws they are building their lives on. If people are held accountable for their mistakes (respectfully,of course) they will eventually, at least attempt to, correct them. However, it seems society is gravitating towards building self esteem by criticizing others or lowering standards. This conduct is sickening. I gotta go throw up.
