I once published this, pretty much, when I was " Real American" : Iraq is like a recovering alcoholic. Under Saddam, their big problem, Saddam, covered up their, obviously, many other problems. When GW took their alcohol (Saddam) away, their myriad other problems sprang up faster than oil related contractors. Many, it seems, were a thousand years old. These problems were not so visible, but they certainly were not dormant. Add to this, it seems the Arab way to settle any argument is with violence. And I thought the minorities in America were easily incited. These problems are many and deep seated, but not insurmountable. The recovering alcoholics(Iraqis) need our support and help, but one of the main ways to help someone in recovery is to hold them accountable and not enable them. At the same time they need to be separated from alcohol(tyranny), so we need to keep the outside forces trying to establish another tyrannical government( Iran, Al Qaeda, maybe even Russia) from getting a grip on Iraq before they are strong enough to stand on their own. Naturally, life in Iraq, initially, seemed worse after the removal of alcohol(Saddam) than before. But, if they stay out from under the oppression of tyranny, life will improve, "one day at a time".
In order to gain true freedom, the people of Iraq must be willing to do whatever it takes to put their past behind them and start new lives. That will require forgetting grudges, yet making amends for wrongs they did to others. Then, and only then, the Sunni's, Shiite's, and Kurds will be able to live in peace. One would think this process would be eased with the income from their gawkingly huge oil reserves. In my opinion, if the Iraqi's settle their differences, the oil revenue would make their lives better, but if they do not get along with each other, the oil will multiply their troubles exponentially. The money could be used as an incentive for them to settle their differences, though. If, receiving money from the oil is contingent upon living together peacefully, many people will see problems with someone, who does not agree with them on every little thing, in a whole new light. True, many will not be affected as much by having a chance at a better life, but the ones who are will be much more likely to help convince the ones who are not, to see things rationally. It seems as if most Iraqi's, in the areas with most of the violence, are reluctant to stand up to the troublemakers. Surely, the local Iraqi people could easily identify foreign mercenaries( hired to keep the insurgency going until the American Liberals are able to make rational Americans allow them to withdraw the American military from the Middle East, so the Radlamists can take over the whole region, including Pakistan, with their nuclear weapons). Now I definitely have to call earrrrrrrrrrlllllll.
